I’ve finally had enough with blogger and it’s lack of categories / dependency on the ponderous and fickle blogger.com server. Hello Word Press!
Already, I’ve got a positive view of Word Press. It was astoundingly easy to move my blogger blog (including comments!) here onto Word Press. If you’re so inclined, here’s the guide I used.

To delete a comment, just log in, and view the posts’ comments, there you will have the option to edit or delete them.
WordPress is great, Upgrading can be a bit tricky though, but not difficult at all.
I always have this worry with complicated sites built on PHP and MySQL, there’s like so many vulnerablites with SQL injection attacks and what not. that I fear my site is going to get hijacked or something. keep your wordpress up-to-date!
now it’s time to replace that giant blue header you got there with something sexy!
Hooray! Welcome to Word Press! One of the things I LOVE about it is the variety of themes that are out there to customize your page. This page held a theme contest last year and there are some really good ones on there. I’m using Tarski on my personal site.
yikes, sorry those comments took so long to approve. i had no idea i needed to approve them and wordpress’ alert magically slipped into my junk mail box. damn you spam!
The Akismet spam catcher thing is truely worth it’s weight in gold, It’s filtered out over 100 spam comments from my journal without me even noticing. truly great. Also I’m using my own butchered version of the pool theme, (I made it a bit wider and some other minor stuff) PHP is easy to read and edit! while you’re at it, strip out the stat counter at the bottom of your main.php or footer.php file, it’s messing up my auto-blog notifier =P
do i have to approve every single comment that’s submitted? because i thought i had set it to “approve once per user” … but i’ve had to approve you twice now, andy.
and don’t worry, i’ve got plenty of ideas for a new word press theme. i just have no time
as for the statcounter script … just stick something into your perl script to strip out the statcounter info from a page. it should be easy: it starts and ends with: =)
I just turned off the moderation of comments. I don’t think I get enough traffic to warrant monitoring them
In your Admin panel, check out Options
Just be careful: it is really easy to get sucked into spending hours working on your WordPress site (I know it happened to me…)
Agreed! WordPress is a lot more fun to use; the categories finally had me make the switch. It’s a shame you can’t muck around in the html templates, but really, no one needs to see my code. I hope all is well Lawrence!
