to open a zip file in debian, install “unzip”

$ sudo apt-get install unzip

you can then call unzip to uncompress your zip file.

    Ey mate, how come when i wanted to open my .rar files that i downloaded it asked for a password? I tried to type in my computer password but it wont work. Thx heaps. Cheers.

    you need to type in the password given by the bloke that compressed the files.
